Currently existing technology, Plasma Window is wall of magnetically sealed plasma, that prevents decompression of ship. Idea for engine blocks to merge with themselves in patterns, to form bigger, more powerful engines. The base blocks would hold the same amount of space as they are now, but nozzles would merge to form round corner rectangular ones of different proportions, or big circular ones, SW Star Destroyer style. Adding on to the customizable suits suggestion, what if we could go beyond cosmetics? Each engineers suit could function differently to meet the needs of different play styles. Soldiers could craft more armor, engineers could craft tethers to anchor themselves to moving ships as they repair and so on. What it is: A block/system that you set up on your conveyor network that tells what item and how much goes to which assembler/refinery/etc. It could have a way of "tagging" items, setting priorities and grouping them so that having multiple refineries and assemblers will be less time consuming and more efficient. The settings option for sensors to detect other sensors, and the option for sensors (that are set to detect other sensors) to detect sensors that are -only set to detect other sensors specifically- or detect default sensors as well. A simple suggestion buried in a mind bender.
Sensors detecting sensors would add even more flexibility to the programming of stations -its an absolute must.
Building within a certain distance of a storage unit automatically gives you access to all the items in it so you don't have to stop what you're doing and grab the things you may have forgotten.
This could be an option that could be enabled or disabled upon creating a new map, since it isn't realistic.
