Kerbal scale star systems with atmospheric flight and radial gravity, by limiting the maximum size of buildings on planets you can get round the issue that comes of having square objects on a round planet, if the planets could orbit in the same way that they do in kerbal that would be wonderful
Would be good if mass generated gravity (proportionally) so asteroids would have a small gravity field of their own (very small)
Eventually, when stars and planets are added, their gravitation fields would have a bearing too.
Upvote now, because this is what we have all wanted for ages! Imagine flying planes, soaring around in the sky! Think about wind effects when you are traveling fast on a planet, having reentry effects when you prepare to land onto the surface! How to implement: Simply add a "wing" block, that will reduce the upwards and downwards momentum of the craft as long as its going fast enough. They can even add control surfaces ...more »
With the introduction of planets, perhaps molten cores could be implemented. With a deep enough tunnel into a planet, geothermal generators would be possible as a source of constant energy. It would be a large scale project to drill deep enough to tap into the high temperatures of planetary cores, but in the end it would be a huge payoff for free energy not dependent on sunlight. What say you?
Saw your development on planets in Space Engineers.
What if the planet has an inaccesible core which is too hot to enter. This way, planets would consist of less blocks making it more "peasant-pc" friendly? Makes drilling pipelines for futuristic thermoreactors possible.
Currently, when you set a large ship to hover above a planet (namely, in areas where gravity is stronger), the inertia dampeners aren't enough to keep the ship from tilting to strange angles when engineers move about inside of it, or when small ships enter to land inside. It would be great if there was a setting that allowed us to enable auto stabilization when our large ships (and small ships?) are hovering within a ...more »
Right now it's unclear what the purpose of landing on planets is. The Keen Developers are waiting for the community to suggest ideas. The purpose of planets could be as follows: OPTION 1: You spawn on planets, forage & scavenge items from ruins/natural resources and build your way to space. From space, due to fuel limitations, you can only explore near space until you are strong enough to finally leave your home planet ...more »
Jetpacks are a pain on the planet, one because they don't align your characters properly to the ground, and second because they run out of hydrogen too easily. They also destroy the feeling of gravity when you are on the ground. SOLUTION: Have a Halo style jetpack, that has a fuel bar that slowly recharges, and can be used for 5-10 seconds at a time. This won't suddenly let your character levitate, or run out in 2 seconds. ...more »
I get that at the moment, spinning the sun is easier for day night cycles. Yes. But here is a suggestion on how to make it better. First, have the sun stopped. second, make the planets be in there own world or area. So when looking from afar the planet would spin on itself. But once you get close enough, you automatically enter its space(gravitational area) witch makes it stop spinning(to you)or makes you move to the ...more »
With the introduction of the atmospheric thrusters, the sense of gravity basically disappeared. What the game really needs are HOVERCRAFTS! Levitating 1-2 meters above the surface, these hovercrafts cannot fly, but instead hover. They fly along the terrain, but won't get stuck in holes like wheels will. Think robocraft hoverblades for an idea of how it might work
Inverted gravity field, or antigravity field generator block. You should be able to configure reach and strength of antigravity field. Despite the word "gravity" in it's name, it should interact not with the gravity, but with blocks and planet surfaces and generate pull against it. So, if mounted on the vehicle or ship facing "down", it can be usable for: 1) Slowing your ship's fall speed during landing maneuver (lowering ...more »
PLEASE READ FULLY BEFORE VOTING! Thanks :) It seems a bit of a waste that, in all planets, 99.9% of the entire surface will never be changed, or mined. Yet it causes more stuff for the game to process, lowering framerate. My solution is to add an option in the world settings to make all planets be indestructible. (you can still mine the surface rocks) This will make planet servers a lot more stable, and allow people with ...more »
