Idea for engine blocks to merge with themselves in patterns, to form bigger, more powerful engines. The base blocks would hold the same amount of space as they are now, but nozzles would merge to form round corner rectangular ones of different proportions, or big circular ones, SW Star Destroyer style. Placing one engine behind another would result in doubling it length, and doubling it thrust (with restrictions to that). ...more »
[We need some type of shielding for landing bays which prevents engine damage.] The update which now causes engines to be destructive was something we have been hesitantly awaiting for quite some time, but now that it is here there are a some problems which we didn't foresee. Landing/Docking results in a choice between slamming into the ground and not being able to take off again or putting massive holes in the floor ...more »
Energy is fundamental. We should get the possibility to exploit natural energy sources (Light, heath, uranium for nuclear reactors) to power the engines. In survival mode the search for energy sources should become an important part.
At the moment, the only way to control the roll, pitch or yaw of your ship is to use gyroscopes. Gyroscopes are great and all, but filling room after room with them in order to get decent manoeuvrability out of your ship isn't exactly realistic. I propose a new type of thruster block, which unlike the existing ones, would apply torque to your ship. They would be mapped onto the same keys as pitch, roll & yaw are, and ...more »
-Single-use thruster block -Requires electricity to be activated -Once activated, cannot be turned off, and doesn't require electricity. -Runs at full thrust until fuel is exhausted -Useful for rockets/missiles, escape pods, separating sections of ships, etc Would have 'solid fuel' as one of it's building components, these components would burn away as fuel, and then could be replaced by welding in the same way as ...more »
As lots of people did not like the thruster blast in case of aesthetics I would like to see something like impulse engines even more. I personally do not like to switch the blast-damage on/off as you have to decide between both but do not have both at the same time. Some Ideas I have would be - Only for big ships - Take longer and are more expensive in construction - Slower than thrusters - Higher/alternate energy consume ...more »
I feel like there should be a consequence for extended thruster use. Perhaps an overheating that reduces efficiency. There could also be a block that counter acts this and acts as a Heat Sink.
