Currently, there is very little challenge to the game, which is absolutely fine for a creative mode. But when survival is implemented there will need to be something to survive against. This could be done by having some AI Space Engineers that inhabit some asteroids or pre-loaded stations, but not all. This means you have to compete for resources and will add a new element to the game. Perhaps the player chooses whether ...more »
Space Engineers is a good game, however after a while you start to feel lonely, you might have the biggest ship ever made but what's the use when only you can just fly it around, so, I propose on there to be some non playable characters in the game that you could have for yourself like a crew(NPCs can be both human and alien). These NPCs could also be categorized into different groups such as pilot, engineer, doctor, ...more »
What if we were to say... dock at a station and request some members to crew the ship. I'm not asking for anything too advanced, but I'd like it very much if I saw some AI walking around the bridge or maybe Engineering. I don't need them to do anything advanced like talking to each other, but I would like to see them walking around on a catwalk in Engineering with a clipboard or something similar. Maybe some guys checking ...more »
Playing solo the game feels epic and at the same time empty. I know that is basically the definition of Space, but I think the NPC ships shouldn't feel like this. My idea is that the NPC ships would be patrolled by drones/robots. These would be easy to implement and the AI wouldn't have to be very advanced at all. Simply moving in strait lines and taking a random a random left or right would do. Couple that with ...more »
In games like Starmade, you can create a ship and save it, then spawn it as an enemy ship. Using a programmable Ai block, you can set your ships to attack enemy ships in range. So you can have a fleet a ships with this ai, then spawn a small fleet of enemy ships that you built and watch them fight. The pieces are there in Space Engineers, or are being developed. Like you can set who owns the ship already, just add like ...more »
Spawn a Trader Station in a random location in the world, with the possibility to trade minerals for currency (if possible add an online market with fluctuating prices depending on data of single player actions, supply and demand), the currency would be used to buy crafted equipment, other ores and possibly ships in survival mode. As the game is now, the survival gameplay is too slow and aimless, this would add objective ...more »
I think it would be amazing if you could in some way apply AI to a ship, for instance you build 4 ships, you make two of the ships controlled by "Enemy AI" and 1 controlled by "Friendly AI" and you fly the 4th, this would allow for your own battles with your own custom ships as the 2 "Enemy AI" would fight you and the friendly one in battle. On a larger Scale this would mean being able to create two massive ships and ...more »
When AI is fully implemented, I think it'd be a good idea to have distress calls pop up on the HUD somewhere with co-ordinates for a stranded AI ship with crew, and you can go and save them by providing power/materials, and they will come back to your base and help out.
Now to start things off I know that to implement intelligent AI in this game will be really really hard and so, 1 thing that I had in mind was something like a Battle Lobby. Now before I explain it I know that this will be kind off going away from the "engineer" case but it would be Killer awesome if it could be added in a future update, Basically what I mean by battle lobby is an option/server that in a nutshell is like ...more »
Once AI players are fully implemented, it might be an idea to add the feature of cloning, so you can create your own workforce, this would require a lot of power to clone a player, but it would also allow another aspect of limited respawns, for example, you can only respawn as an engineer once you have enough power to clone a new body. This would also give a reason for the AI engineers to appear in the game.
what you should add next is to be able to have mutable cockpits and have then as stations such as Communications, Gunnery Control, Navigation, Security etc as this will make the game play feel much more real and you may want to think about adding some kind of blocks that would a allow a play to place large large battle ship style guns on board and to be able to control them form the bridge of the ship
