Alarms and Sirens

Idea by DrVagax, taken from the Suggestions Forum

"So while pretending i was going to board an enemy space station, i had the idea of having alerts.

An alert should be the status the crew and ship would be on, so they know what to prepare for.

Green/no alert:

- All Interior Lights remain unchanged

- Content on the LED display will remain as they were.

- No doors will be closed.

- No alarm emitted.

Orange alert:

- All Interior Lights change to a orange (flashing) colour

- Content on the LED display will change to orange text informing what danger** might be ahead.

- All pre-selected* doors will shut down. Faction members may open the doors. No additional bonus given.

- Every interior door will emit a low volume alarm. Different than the Red Alert alarm.

Red alert:

- All Interior Lights change to a red colour

- Content on the LED display will change to red text informing what danger** is up ahead.

- All pre-selected* doors will shut down tightly. (Increasing damage resistance but are impossible for any crew member to open, unless destroyed of course)

- Every interior door will emit an alarm sound. (Can be disabled in the options menu)

* = When placing a door, the builder should have the option to make this a special 'Alarm' door, which would close down when stuff is going on to prevent damage or enemies from breaking in.

** = When selecting the Red alarm option in the captains chair/cockpit. A reason can either be selected from a presets menu or a custom reason can be entered."

-----------------------------------------

Combating a few issues:

- As sound doesn't travel through de-pressurised areas, sirens could be wirelessly transmitted to your helmet so that they are still audible.

- To prevent a lot of problems, closed doors should open automatically for faction members, without needing to interface with the terminal

-----------------------------------------

I felt this idea was too good for it to be lost in the forum graveyard.
